Solar Car Challenge Team 2

Team brainstorming session
Team brainstorming session

I've been neglecting updates on our Solar Car Team for the last month. We've been having weekly lunch meetings to make plans, but there's only so much you can do in the span of 45 minutes. Now I understand when all my students say that "we never get enough time to eat lunch"...well, we never get enough time to make plans for our solar car either. But over the Thanksgiving break, we have a good turnout of team members who were willing to meet while the school is out on break.

Our team makeup consists of 15 hardworking students ranging from 6th to 12th grade:

  • Michael: Team captain
  • Daniel: First Officer
  • Stuart: Treasurer
  • Calista: Secretary
  • Alexander G.
  • Alexander L.
  • Andrea
  • Annaliyse
  • Caitlin
  • Ellie
  • Gaby
  • Madeleine
  • Nicolas
  • Pierre
  • Tarik

My students are a great group! Very enthusiastic and motivated...

KidStuff Coupon BookFundraising for our project had been off to a good start. We needed to start off with some seed money and to get everyone thinking about how we can raise enough money to fund out project. This solar car project is as much of an engineering project as it is a business & marketing endeavor. Everyone is involved in trying to raise funds and community awareness of what we are trying to achieve. Earlier in the month, we decided as a team to sell coupon books to family, friends and acquaintances. It's a good start and it has raised enough to help us fund some bigger ideas. Now it is on to a bigger fundraising effort in order to meet our funding goal of $10,000.

Next is corporate sponsorship. We have a team without our solar car team dedicated to Marketing and Public Relations. It will be up to this team to really get the word of our project out to the school and business communities.
